Whether you’ve been riding for years or want to take up a new hobby, consider heading over to Bull Run Stables. This 40-acre facility just outside Centreville includes an indoor arena, outdoor fields, and several barns. The staff offer weekly horseback riding lessons (private or in groups) primarily in the arena (especially for beginners), and introduce new riders to some of the stables’ gentlest, friendliest horses. Once your horseback riding skills have advanced to an intermediate level, you’ll head outside (you might even learn to jump low fences). Both children and adults are welcome. Bull Run also offers week-long, kid-oriented summer camps that teach riding fundamentals to youngsters, with a particular focus on caring for horses properly, including grooming, tacking up, bathing, and turning out a horse. See the website for a full listing of summer camp schedules.
