Summer is officially in full swing here in Virginia and with summer comes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables! We are lucky to live in a region where there are plenty of places that we can go and buy fresh produce, but also pick our own.  Currently, here in Virginia, we are in PEACH season! During the months of July and August, peaches will be at their prime and we all need to take advantage of another peach season while it lasts!

One way to take advantage of peach season is by heading to one of Virginia’s peach festivals.  On August 11th, Mackintosh Fruit Farm, will be holding their Peach Festival from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  You could also take a drive to DeHart Park in Patrick County for the Annual Virginia State Peach Festival.  The Virginia State Peach Festival will be held on August 17th from 5 p.m.to 10 p.m.  Also, Richard’s Fruit Market will be holding a Peach Festival on August 19th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Another way to enjoy our two months of peak peach season is by heading to one of the many farms and farmers markets throughout Virginia to either pick-your-own or buy freshly picked peaches to enjoy at home.  Not sure where to go for fresh peaches, check out this list here.  Once you stock up on your peaches, head home and use them in several different, and delicious, ways! Some of our favorite peach recipes include peach cobbler, peach salsa, peach caprese salad, and grilled peaches.

Do you have a favorite way to enjoy the fresh peaches of summer that we didn’t list? Let us know! We can’t wait to smell the fresh scent of peaches throughout Lakeside!
