With the #Blizzard2016 officially behind us, it is time to get out of the apartment and venture out to enjoy a classic winter activity, ice skating.  There are several options in our area where you can practice your figure skating and ice hockey moves!

After being stuck inside for so many days due to Winter Storm Jonas, head outside and get some fresh air at one of the outdoor ice rinks located in Virginia.  The open-air pavilion at the Reston Town Center has been transformed into a skating rink.  The ice rink is for all ages and abilities to enjoy and will be open through mid-March.  In historic downtown Manassas, you will find the Harris Pavilion also converted to a skating rink for the season.  Also, open daily through mid-March, skate on the newly renovated and expanded Pentagon Row Ice Rink.  This is Virginia’s largest outdoor ice skating rink and provides a great fire pit for those to warm up by in between spins on the ice!  Lastly, for about another month, take a break from shopping in Tysons Corner and check out the Tysons Corner Center Ice Rink located on the second floor next to Lord & Taylor.

However, if being out in the cold, crisp air isn’t your thing, there are indoor options for you to lace up your skates.  One of the most popular indoor skating rinks in Virginia isn’t too far from us in Arlington. Check out one of the Washington Capitals practice sessions before or after you hone in your ice hockey skills at the Kettler Capital Iceplex.  The Kettler ice rink is open year round and located on the top of the Ballston Common Mall parking garage.  Fairfax Ice Arena, Ashburn Ice House and SkateQuest are other great options close to us here at Lakeside.  Each location offers food, lessons and has a pro-shop.

No matter your age or experience, ice skating is a great activity to do with your family and friends!
